Moving Pictures Cine Film Conversions

Cine Film to DVD Conversions

Ciné film or cine film is the term commonly used in the UK and historically in the US to refer to the 8 mm, Super 8, 9.5 mm, and 16 mm motion picture film formats used for home movies. It is not normally used to refer to professional formats such as 35 mm or 70 mm film, and is incorrect if applied to any video format.

Cine film literally means "moving" film, deriving from the Greek "kine" for motion; it also has roots in the Anglo-French word cinematograph, meaning moving picture, hence our business name Moving Pictures. Following on from cine in the 50's, 60's and 70s came the use of video as a more popular format in the mid 70's. The VHS tape dominated the home movie market for almost 3 decades, seeing its way through the ‘80s and ‘90s and staying on top until the arrival of the DVD in  the late 90's. Video to DVD conversions then grew to become our most popular service in Edinburgh and it still is to this day. We still receive Cine Film for Conversion to DVD but not nearly as many as 20 years ago,
Moving Pictures: Preserving Memories

Digital Conversions

We are probably the best known Digital Conversion business in Edinburgh having been in operation for so long. We used to be in Dalkeith Road but moved the business to Roseburn Terrace and have been operating our digital conversion business from there since the turn of the century.

We used to share a shop with the PC Doctor but the businesses outgrew each other and PC Doctor moved to their own shop just across the road in Roseburn Terrace.

With more and more streaming services such as Netflix becoming popular, perhaps digital conversions will become a thing of the past. As long as Edinburgh customers keep digging their old cine and video tapes out of their attics and garages , Moving Pictures will continue to provide this valuable, nostalgic service and help preserve your memories for future generations to enjoy.
